This verse emphasizes the obligation of attending the Friday prayer (Salat al-Jumu'ah) and prioritizing worship over worldly matters.

2. A Special Day of Worship

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) described Jumma as a day of immense spiritual value:

  • Forgiveness of sins: He said, “The five daily prayers and from one Jumma to the next are an expiation for whatever sins come in between, so long as one does not commit any major sin.” (Sahih Muslim)
  • Dua is accepted: On this day, there is a specific hour during which Allah accepts the supplications of His servants. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “There is a time on Friday at which no Muslim would pray and ask Allah for something but He would give it to him.” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim)

3. Friday Prayer (Salat al-Jumu'ah)

The Friday prayer is obligatory for Muslim men and is performed in congregation. It includes:

  • A khutbah (sermon) delivered by the Imam.
  • Two units (rakats) of prayer, replacing the Dhuhr prayer.

Attending the Jumma prayer is a collective act of worship that strengthens community bonds and reminds Muslims of their faith and responsibilities.

4. Acts of Worship on Jumma

Muslims are encouraged to perform additional acts of worship on this day:

  • Recitation of Surah Al-Kahf: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on the day of Jumma will have a light for him between this Friday and the next.” (Sunan al-Kubra)
  • Sending blessings upon the Prophet: “Increase your blessings upon me on Friday, for they are presented to me.” (Sunan Abu Dawood)
  • Making dua and engaging in dhikr (remembrance of Allah).

Jumma is a day that fosters unity among Muslims as they gather in mosques for the Friday prayer. It is a reminder of the shared values and principles of Islam, transcending cultural and national boundaries.
